Objectives
The workshop targets the discussion of future research priorities for the MAGIC campaigns regarding all aspects of methane, carbon dioxide and cal/val of space missions. It will include presentations on scientific results from the 5 past campaigns, organizational feedback, data usage, and most importantly definition of objectives/planning of the next campaigns (e.g. goals for a tropical and high latitudes campaign, cal/val needs, etc.).
Targeted audience include participants of all MAGIC campaigns since 2018, funding agencies and new participants (remote sensing teams, modeling teams, colleagues who have expressed interest in joining us).
The workshop will be organized around keynotes, short presentations and several discussions/round tables to determine where we want to go in the next few years according to the different objectives.
Planned schedule
The workshop will start on Monday 3rd April at 10:00 and will end on Tuesday 4th April at 17:00.
- Monday (start at 10:00 – welcome from 9:30)
- Morning:
- Introduction and workshop objectives
- Status of MAGIC initiative and results (short oral presentations)
- Afternoon: Session 1 (keynote + 2 rounds of discussion + summary)
- Evening: workshop diner at the ‘Living Room‘ restaurant (10mn walk)
- Morning:
- Tuesday (start at 9:00 – end at 17:00)
- Morning: Session 2 (keynote + 2 rounds of discussion + summary)
- Afternoon:
- Session 3 (keynote + 2 rounds of discussion + summary)
- Conclusion, funding opportunities and way forwards
The workshop will be organized around sessions aiming at defining priorities for MAGIC in 3 fields: 1) CO2 studies, 2) CH4 studies and 3) cal/val of GHG space missions. Each session will be introduced by a keynote, followed by 1h30 discussion in subgroups and ended by a general discussion and summary.
A remote access will be put in place for those who cannot attend in person. However, it will only cover the keynotes and talks, and won’t allow to take part in the discussion Sessions.
Abstracts
A 2h slot is reserved for oral presentations of scientific results from any MAGIC campaigns, instrument presentations and related activities. Posters will also be displayed throughout the workshop.

By plane: The nearest airport is Paris-Orly. Take the OrlyVal to Antony RER B station, then a train heading towards ‘Saint Rémy lès Chevreuse’ and stop at station ‘Massy-Palaiseau’. At the Atlantis bus station, take bus 91.06 or 91.10 to reach the center (direction ‘Saclay – Saint Quentin’ and stop ‘Marguerite PEREY’).
